Canadian Pondweed
(Elodea Canadensis)
Canadian Pondweed (Elodea Canadensis) is found in lakes, ponds, canals and slow moving water, it relies entirely on vegetative reproduction for its spread. It draws up metals from sediments and releases them into the water, causing silt build-up. Canadian pondweed dominates native species, often leading to their extinction.
Control
Mechanical cutting in spring and removal of all vegetation to prevent deoxygenation. Care should be taken when harvesting to avoid infecting linked watercourses.
